Do you prefer welded steel pipe or seamless steel pipe for your project?

Obviously, the difference in the basic manufacturing method of steel pipes is from their names. Technically speaking, seamless pipe is extruded and drawn from a billet while welded steel pipe is produced from a strip that is roll formed and welded to produce a tube in a mill. Although the working pressure of welded pipe is 20% less than that for a similar seamless pipe, working pressure is not the determining factor for choosing seamless pipe over welded pipe for analyzer sample lines. The difference in potential impurities, which reduce the corrosion resistance of the finished pipe, is why seamless pipe is specified.

In applications, welded pipes are typically more cost effective than their seamless equivalents. And the wall thickness of welded pipes is generally more consistent than that of seamless pipes. On the other hand, the main perceived advantage of seamless pipes is that they don’t have a weld seam. Hot dipped galvanized steel pipe generally has the rational cost effective in the market. Compared with other typical steel pipe coatings, such as specialized painting and powder coating, galvanization is much more labor-intensive, resulting in a higher initial cost for contractors. Besides, due to its durability and anti-corrosive properties, hot dipped galvanized steel pipe can recycled and reused, which to some degree save a lot of money during the post maintenance work.

Generally speaking, seamless steel pipes can give users a peaceful mind in applications when used as structural steel pipes in construction today. Although there should be no issues with the seams of welded pipes supplied by reputable manufacturers, seamless pipes prevent any possibility of a weak seam. Nevertheless, welded steel pipes are usually more readily available than seamless. The longer lead time required for seamless pipes can not only make timing problematic, but it also allows more time for the price of the materials to fluctuate. In addition, the main perceived advantage of seamless steel pipes is that they don’t have a weld seam. Traditionally, the seam of welded pipes has been viewed as a weak spot, vulnerable to failure and corrosion. For many years, this fear was probably justified. However, in recent years improvements in the manufacturing process for welded steel pipes and other welded pipes have boosted the strength and performance of the weld seam to levels indistinguishable from that of the rest of the pipe.

In the current steel pipe market, how to make a right choice of steel pipe for a project seems always a headache issue among most of end-users in life. DongPengBoDa Steel Pipe Group is one of professional steel pipe manufacturers in China, which is specialized in producing various types of steel pipes based on your requirements in application.
