As a key carbon emission industry, China’s iron and steel industry faces four major challenges in low-carbon transformation:

At the same time, our iron and steel industry also face four problems of unbalanced and inadequate development:
First, under the strict carbon reduction target task, the technical support capacity is still insufficient;
Second, under the requirements of increasingly perfect policy development, the supporting technical tools of the industry are not perfect;
Third, under the high quality and low-cost development strategy of round steel pipe, the marginal cost of technological carbon emission reduction is increasing;
Fourth, under the higher requirements of ecological civilization construction, the basic capacity of the industry itself is still weak.

Low-carbon development depends on scientific and technological progress. We should reduce carbon in the process of development and develop in the process of reducing carbon. Development of clean energy such as “green electricity” and “green hydrogen” is an important support for China’s iron and steel industry to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality. In recent years, China’s iron and steel industry has intensified efforts to promote the development and utilization of solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, hydrogen energy and other clean energy. Iron and steel enterprises are studying and exploring hydrogen smelting technology, including non-blast furnace ironmaking, and actively carrying out “green electricity” trading work.
